DJ DAN - LIFT (THRIVE)

There possibly could not be a better title for this release from funky house favorite DJ Dan. "Lift" is a rocking blast from the drop of the first beat off of Dan’s own party igniter ‘Love For The Weekend’ with production partner Hatiras. This track immediately raises the bar and sets the levels for the tracks to come. It doesn’t stop there either. Tracks from Seamus Haji, Denis The Menace presents Tube6 provides crazy beats with ‘Funkadelic‘ followed by the funky threat of ‘Cuban Cigar’. And when the push comes to shove ‘Rock Your World’ by DJ DLJ delivers with one of the most recognizable lyrics of 80’s dance music. The first half close with the amazing ‘Flexible’ from Joe Pegnato, which only leaves you craving the slamming submission ‘Superstars’ from The Loose Cannons. This track serves as a standout sample of DJ Dan’s ability to find vocally-driven rocking funky tracks as it launches the second disc, which is littered with the deep, dark dirty funk that puts DJ Dan is a realm all his own. Lift is more than just an amazing mix from DJ Dan, the album can act as a look at the resurgence of the acid sound of the late 80’s to early 90’s while remaining firmly rooted in straight-up funky house showing a nod to his early days with the Funky Tekno Tribe. ‘Lift’ is a party album for the dedicated hardcore clubber.-- review by Shawn Wallace
