THE RH FACTOR - DISTRACTIONS (VERVE GROUP) |
| |

Roy Hargrove's The RH Factor is on the move and ridin'
the groove with "Distractions," an appropriately
titled platter of sweet, sweet tunage that will indeed
distract you from the workaday world and take you
somewhere else. Equally effective for a lazy morning
or a lusty evening, "Distractions" has tentacles that
reach out in a variety of directions in the
soul-funk-jazz world, creating a fusion that boasts a
themed eclecticism that doesn't stray from the heart
of its personality but which flows here and there,
keeping the dynamics and up front consideration and
taking the listener on a ride through a Neapolitan
scoop of jazzy dessert. Old school soul, sultry and
sung, caresses the lover's heart while funktified
happenin's give the groove for gettin' goin' once the
caressing has awakened the one you're with. As with
its sister release (Roy Hargrove Quintet "Nothing
Serious"), the song flow is impeccable, carrying the
listener seamlessly through a variety of tracks that
carry us through the various aspects of this musical
realm available to the talented compositions of one
such as Hargrove. Yummy. -- review by Kristofer Upjohn
