PURE PACHA VOL II SUMMER SEASON (OM)

Ibiza, the name only screams dance and debauchery. Pacha the superclub that holds roots on the white isle has become a global brand that defines movement through rhythm and dance, including a recent expansion into the states with PachaNYC. For their latest edition, they have turned to UK-institution Pete Tong and Pacha resident Sarah Main to provide a great album of what has been pumping their dancefloor since last year. Pete Tong is no stranger to Pacha as he has been a guiding force there ever year as he helps to steer the summer season that draws so many fans to the clubbing mecca. The Tong bit takes a bit to get going, but this serves as a look at the Radio 1 jock’s minimal tastes. The right choice was made when this half of the release was titled ‘Tong’s Pureste Cuts’. For fans of Pete Tong this disc is missing his normal penchant for the hip and funky thumping tracks, which are replaced by a cleaner, stripped down mix. Tracks from Mardel, Chab and Harry ‘Choo Choo’ Romero provide the heart of this non-pulse driven half of the Summer Season album. Originally from Australia, Sarah Main has taken her love of dance music from down under and toured it around the world. The Pacha resident has performed at the superclub events in several major cities, including London, Barcelona, and Palma. Main’s addition to the Summer Season album starts off with a great cut from Kerri Chandler which meshes with the minimal vibe of the Pete Tong disc and then takes a turn as she explores her own ‘Dark and Dirty Cuts’. Main’s song selection runs from the Latin-influenced ‘Fiesta’ to the house and 70’s-funk influenced ‘Put Ya Body On It’. Like the two cherries on the logo, Pure Pacha Volume II brings together both the minimal groves and dirty funk that make Pacha the clubbing destination worldwide.-- review by Shawn Wallace
