EUPHORIA - PRECIOUS TIME (ZOE) |
| |

Euphoria's "Precious Time" is an interesting amalgam
of organic and electronic elements. There's a gentle
energy informing the tunes that make them both catchy
but also laid back. "Back Against the Wall" opens the
disc with a moody southwest guitar wang fused with
electronic beats. More catchy light but moving
percussion elements abound on "Blue" (with Tina Dico),
which still features a bit of the western thing but
has a whole gob of pop and adult contemporary and
maybe a hint of the exotic. "Cowboys" brings back the
country/west rock with guitar and harmonica,
delivering a sense of open range freedom and a note of
rugged hope, perhaps. A touch of border music a la pop
with Tina Dico on vox crops up on "Sinners and
Saints." "The Glendale Train" and "Fire in the Hole"
both bring out some bluesy desert country tunage.
"Precious Time" features Tracy Bonham and lays out a
cool, sexy groove. "The Getaway" brings out the
nighttime vibes and the Bonham-imbued "Anyone Can
Lose" is a chilled-out highlight on the disc. There's
a nice kicked back groove on "Forever Dust" but you
can see the attitude in the cowboy boots. "Kolkata"
brings in a surprising blend of the mystic and the
here-at-home and we close with "Vapor," a
synthy-sounding piece that brings its own personality
but fits the flow of what has gone before. This music
is relaxing (but not like cheap background go-to-sleep
music) and engaging and oozing with personality.-- review by Kristofer Upjohn
