Two great examples of what Roy Hargrove does on this standout CD of jazz music appear early on in the track count. "A Day in Vienna", which was written by Slide Hampton (guest trombonist on this album), is a perfect demonstration of the pacey, vibrant and spicy jazz trot Hargrove and Co. are capable of producing. It very nearly makes you want to start snapping your fingers like some beatnik in a club half a century ago. It's great stuff. Immediately following that is "Trust", a slow and atmospheric number with just oodles of personality that endears itself to the listener; one of the treats on this number is the flute solo. Of course, these are only two out of eight incredible tracks of jazz, mostly straightforward but with some experimental moments here and there. Bright brass, groovy percussion, wonderful woodwinds - Hargrove just epitomizes what good classic jazz is supposed to sound like. He's certainly a modern master of the genre and deserves shelf space next to gods like Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, et. al. -- review by Kristofer Upjohn
