ANALOG PUSSY - TRANCE N ROLL (ESNTION SILVER)

Analog Pussy has never released any of its music domestically before but goa/psychedelic trance fans are not unfamiliar with the work of the distinctly named purveyor of psytrance. Compilations such as The World of Goa Trance, etc., that occasionally show up in CD bins have revealed the kills of AP to listeners. The duo of musicians obviously knows how to craft sleek, teflon-slick, absorbing goa trance. With its stripped down minimalism and paradoxical depth and texture, Analog Pussy's music propels the listener into a dark, psychedelic world, proving themselves on a par with such acts as Juno Reactor. The difference with this album is its rooting in rock and roll and, frankly, whether or not this works is an entirely subjective artistic decision. Eclectics who like to hear old things done new ways will be interested to discover influences such as Deep Purple popping up in the middle of a psytrance disc. Purists who just want to ride the psy, however, may be a little put off by some of the tweakings AP gives the genre. However, both sides should ultimately enjoy the offering since there is a bit of rock structure fusion afoot here but it doesn't go so far as to cut "Trance N Roll" off from its core genre. Every psytrance fan ought to give this a shot. -- review by Kristofer Upjohn
