LUKE FAIR - OS_0.3 (BEDROCK MUSIC)

"Mooguno" is a modern dance track channeling 80s new wave and Tangerine Dream, and thus we are introduced to the compelling world of Luke Fair, whose selection of tracks for this mix of house tunes is completely compelling and totally able to stand out from the crowd. There's a subtlety and unassuming quality to the music, yet it is fully engaging. "Friday Loops" picks up where "Mooguno" leaves off and presents an etherea to the proceedings that house often doesn?t see. ?Synth Song? is laden with catchy hooks and tight textures and "Ain't No" adds some buzzing melody and represents a little more traditional house flavor but one that fits well with what?s gone before. ?Lose Yourself? recalls the retro with minimalist mind-grabbing that, like much of the other music herein, reminds one of understated trance converted to house purposes. This track segues into obliquely referencing standard house. ?Bulldog Beats? thrives on captivating progression. A sort of dubbish techfunk is the order of the day on ?When In Rome,? and ?La Serenissima? boasts synths that hint at organic classical tastes. A totally groovy base melody runs through the belly of ?Electric.? ?Supernova? explodes with whispered epic sensibilities. ?Malteser Geezer? also references the qualities of trance. ?1983? is, as suggested by the name, a look back at some of the textures of the 80s and ?Xristophan? moves with dense but spacious textures and grows into quiet infectiousness. And ?Waves? ends the session with expansive house lushness. A solid CD, and one of the best house mixes to hit the dance floors in quite a while. -- review by Kristofer Upjohn
