Cut Copy's music is a hybrid. It's a combination of electronic and live elements. It is also a minor genre bender, fusing the sounds of the modern glam-rooted/new wave-tinged "indie" act (i.e. The Killers, Franz Ferdinand) with poppy club flavors. I will say that the end result is reasonably distinctive, using the fused elements to refer to them but not outright sound like either. So that's good. And the music is kinda catchy and fairly well textured, layering in the instruments, electronica and slightly too-hip vocals. The overall effect is hard to criticize overall, yet one walks away recognizing that what he's heard is pretty good, yet unsatisfying. It might be okay to give off some beats for a party, if no dancers are in a discriminating mood, but past that, Cut Copy's "Fabriclive 29" is cursed with the unfortunate paradoxical trait of being good and unique but forgettable. -- review by Kristofer Upjohn
