PERFECTO PRESENTS SANDRA COLLINS PART 2 (THRIVE) |
| |

(Editor's note: We'll top off Kris' review with a semi-official intro... Not that one of the most popular DJs in the world needs any introduction, but in case you somehow forgot that Sandra Collins was one of the first female DJs to make it big back in the beginning, and she continues to earn her "Trance Goddess" title - though the music she spins, remixes and produces (not to mention how her incredible energy comes through both live and in her releases) has expanded well beyond the restraints of one genre, as Kris so eloquently points out in his review of her latest double mix CD offering...)
Part 2 of Perfecto's showcase of Sandra Collins is sort of a club-tinged house offering. The set is driven by texture with the melodies manifesting as a subtler influence, which is what would be expected from the house roots of this dance project, to my way of thinking. For me, trance is melody focused while house is more elemental, its thrust being the beats and textures. And that's true of Sandra Collins 2-disc comp of dance tracks. This release isn't infectious but it's not without its hooks. Like I said, it's largely texture driven but the textures here are tightly woven and buzz with energy. The layering of the songs' elements together results in depth of sound, which is propelled along at dance floor tempos, making for music that's good enough to stir things up at a party.-- review by Kristofer Upjohn
