THRIVEMIX PRESENTS TRANCE ANTHEMS (THRIVE) |
| |

"Thrivemix Presents Trance Anthems" is a 2-disc slab of trance that exhibits the latest flavors in trance music while still remaining conscious of old school trance. Which is to say, I caught a tad of the texture and taste of old school trance while being surrounded by the more sublime and ethereal aspects of today's trance. It was just a few short years ago that I was introduced to the world of trance and while I can't say I'm entirely happy with the direction the genre has taken - I like those big, bursting, epic trance climaxes - I can certainly understand the appeal of the more subtle expansions of clear, blue sky that seem to come out of the speakers nowadays. The trance here is lest about aggressive, hard melodies and more about elongating the beauty across the expanse of a song/CD, creating something a little more subtle and sublime in its functioning. Sort of "deep" trance, if you will. Most of the music here, which shifts from vocal to instrumental, is of this variety, with slight flourishes in the direction of old school trance. Ultimately, it's a slow build sort of experience and I think that goes beyond this CD to the genre as a whole these days. It may take a little while for this one to catch on to you but it will find you sooner or later. There's lots of beauty here and you might just get a little transcendent if you let yourself. Standout track example: "Empty Streets (Haji & Emanuel Remix)" by Late Night Alumni. -- review by Kristofer Upjohn
