ELECTRIC_02 LOVINGLY HANDCRAFTED BY KING UNIQUE + NUBREED (EQ)

"Electric_02" shows off how electro style is to be done. King Unique, mixer of Disc One, knows how to build. And that's an important secret in the world of electronica. The DJ who maintains a plateau across the entire length of a set is less likely to earn admirers or set off a vibe with listeners than is the mixer who gradually builds the audience up to a peak of radiance. King Unique has his skills down pat, bringing the listener into a bright and surprisingly lush crescendo starting around "Moppal Kiff" (by Wighnomy Bros.), "Zoom Out" (Kupon) and "Night Falls" (by Booka Shade). The King takes the listener from dark, semi-minimalist electro textures to a place of startling transcendence filled with absorbing beauty. Nubreed also explores dark places, doing a good job of mingling shadow and gorgeousness, with "Periwethel" by Danny Bonnici & Dan Mangan being a fine example of Nubreed shifting dark and light into each other. "Electric_02" is a fine presentation of the electro genre executed the way it's supposed to be.-- review by Kristofer Upjohn
