CAJMERE VS. GREEN VELVET - MINISTRY OF SOUND SESSIONS (MINISTRY OF SOUND UK)

Ministry of Sound's new Cajmere Vs. Green Velvet doesn't achieve greatness but there's plenty of goodness to be had. Cajmere and Green Velvet are two different sides of the same artist, Curtis Jones. This dual disc release demonstrates nicely the versatility of this highly competent DJ. For that matter, either one of these CDs by itself is capalbe of showing off considerable skill. The Cajmere disc is the soulful housey side Jones; it pulses with juicy textures, nice ambience, svelte hooks and terrific vocal samples (including scat and gospel!) The Green Velvet angle is the darker and harder side, featuring highly acidic textures, driving beats, some inclinations toward psydance and relentless energy. This set is a packed out collection that reverberates with dance floor drive and masterful mixing. Ministry of Sound and Jones are to be commended. -- review by Kristofer Upjohn
