Mike Gillenwater (aka Vitamin D) does what it's not easy to do. He takes house-flavored music and makes it interesting to me. I'm objective enough to recognize good house when I hear it but often even high quality house leaves me feeling lukewarm. But Gillenwater manages to incorporate a variety of flavors and lots and lots of textures into his music. While it may not strictly be considered house, there's much of that genre here and I think house finds will find big appeal in Gillenwater's work. And so will non-house fans. Each track has its own personality yet each track flows smoothly into the next. It's a finely tuned record with production well balanced and a nice blend of laid-backness and dance energy.
