Playloop has already garnered serious industry attention, nabbing praise from major DJs. Rather than focusing on one particular style - a common tack for electronic labels - Playloop aims with a more eclectic, expansive scope. The label's debut comp album, "Get Into the Loop Vol. 1," is out to demonstrate that. We kick off with the chilled "Assimilated" by Kezner, a smooth-grooved track that beckons subtlety with jazz, blues, funk and R&B. The joy continues with another Kezner track, "If the Sun Sets," which is equally chilled but embraces a bright, electro-like sound that verily glitters. Hints of tropical retro filtered through a wormhole in space bathe the listener in relaxed warmth on Justin Paul's "Deep Submergence." "Virtual Voltage (Reconstruktion Mix)" by Microstar delivers the warm feelings via alluring, ethereal house flavors. The house-ness continues on the cool breeze of Microstar's "500 Degrees." House sublimity and melodic brightness mingle freely on the 12" mix
of Justin Paul's "Red Shift." Justin Paul also unleashes dance power on the big and buzzing "There's a Reason," featuring Sapphirecut. Next up is the energetic and atmospheric (and aptly titled) "Acid Reflux" from Nigel Richards. Dance floor fire shoots out from the infectious "il salto fouri The Jump Off (Crazy Mix)" by Tattoo Detectives. Not-to-be-ignored dark, textured grooves drive the Tattoo Detectives' "ETC." Teflon melodies dominate DJ Everyday's "Cold Night" and the Tattoo Detectives chime in again with the Kezner USO Remix of "il salto fouri." Finally, "One foot on the Moon" by Locality wraps things up with some cosmic questing. If this is the sort of work Playloop is putting out then I can foresee a fine future for this forward thinking label. -- review by Kristofer Upjohn
