Hot Chip offers its installment in !K7's "DJ Kicks" series. If you like eclectic, then you're in the right place. The members of Hot Chip got together and pooled their influences and tastes into picking out a truly varied selection of tracks that moves from cool and compelling laid back electro to sassy hip-hop, from post-modern soul to bluesy-tasty flavors. I'm sure that in some hands the flow from track to track with such an eclectic mix would come off more as a disjointed soundtrack than an open-minded mingling of tastes. But with Hot Chip, the latter is what you get. There are a lot of different things going on here, and while it falls short of being outright infectious, it's an engaging listen, nonetheless, thanks to Hot Chip's willingness to go all out and share no-fear variety.-- review by Kristofer Upjohn
