ACHILLEA - AMADAS ESTRELLAS (SEQUOIA) |
| |

While “Amadas Estrellas” lacks some of the distinctiveness of Enigma, from whence hails Achillea's Jens Gad, this release is nonetheless a lush and beautiful disc of Spanish-flavored chillout. The ethereal strains of the electronica-based instrumentals provide a pillowy bed of cool glory upon which European pop vocalist Luisa Fernandez' Spanish vocals drift. The world music flavors add an extra edge to the fairly traditional chillout personality, upping the ante just a bit. Achillea's music is inarguably well-crafted though the world of chillout isn't experiencing any groundbreaking here. Jens Gad's history with Enigma has served well as a musical fermenting, preparing the artist to take to the studio and present tunes that are mainstream for their corner of the musical world but nonetheless a solid example of the style. Layering the Spanish vox across this cloudscape of soothing ear candy is the perfect touch and the fan of good chillout (me, for example) who listens to such artists as Amethystium, Blue Stone, et. al., will be well-served by this purchase. -- review by Kristofer Upjohn
