SIMPLY JEFF - BRING IT BACK (MAJESTIC) |
| |

Bring It Back consists of nineteen tracks with phatt funky beats and breaks. A strong 80's influence is also present and stands out the most in "Left Hoook", "Godzilla Funk", and the final track, "Bring It Back". Simply Jeff put together some of his own classics, some unreleased goods, and some new tracks. Known as the pioneer of the "Funky Breaks/West Coast Breakbeat" sound, he's toured internationally with The Crystal Method and Uberzone. The best tracks of the mix are: "Recticulan Groove" by X-Calibur (with its upbeat calmness) - "Science" by Uberzone & Simply Jeff (a newer funky breaky groove) - "Force 10" by Simply Jeff & John Kelley featuring Omnibus (a funker that touches on tribal and has a subtle reference to an 80s feel) - and "Your Body" (Friendly Remix) by Simply Jeff (the longest, phattest, and most morphed out track in the mix.) Overall Bring It Back is a pretty consistent, well rounded breaks mix with an old skool overlay. I would have preferred less of an 80s sound and a couple more standout tracks, but if you're big into the 80s, you might be big into Bring It Back. www.simplyjeff.com -- review by Jules Mari
