Close your eyes and envision a smoky lounge, a piano and sultry jazz singing. If you can't, "Blue Light" might help a little. While Johnstone's voice isn't the sexiest or most alluring I've ever encountered, she does have a distinctive voice and one that conjures atmosphere quite nicely. The coolwarm jazz grooves that accompany her are finely crafted and quite evocative. This is utterly a mood album and the kind of thing you might play for a dinner party or a romantic date - or if you just want to hear some vocal jazz. Johnstone is reverent of the tradition of which she is a part and acquits herself well. Many will be enamored of Johnstone's unique touch to this classic style of music. -- review by Kristofer Upjohn
