OSCAR G - NERVOUS NITELIFE: SPACE MIAMI |
| |

Here's yet another rarity for you. Recently, the increased frequency of good house albums - or what I call good house albums, picky you-know-what that I am about the genre - is starting to make me think that house music I actually like isn't quite the endangered species I thought it was. Oscar G has met my tough standards and survived. "Nervous Nitelife: Space Miami" is one damn hook-charged slab of a live DJ session. "Space," indeed ... the tracks on here do occupy the higher, darker layers of all this air around the globe - the stars are brighter here and you can experience them, and the space that surrounds them, via aural channels by way of the needle-in-arm come-back-for-more tug of the grooves operating in atmospheric production. Lean and sharp, the textures created by the perfect alignment and juxtaposition of the rhythms and sounds herein pull the listener in with gentle force. I had my doubts sure, but they dissolved quickly in the face of Oscar G's potent DJ skills and smart track selection. "Space Miami" is a testament those rare moments of house transcendence. -- review by Kristofer Upjohn
