CALLING ALL NATIONS (GUNG-HO! RECORDINGS)

From disco-lectro to buzzy house to all kinds of danceworthy, high-energy, head-grooving dance music, "Calling All Nations" is a call to attention for those of you unfamiliar with Gung Ho! Recordings. This compilation is not only a retrospective of the last couple of years of material from this new, growing label but also a peek into the future with some items showing up for the first time as advanced tastes of Gung Ho! to come. A thread of electro flavor runs throughout the disc but one can hardly lump all this together into one genre. Despite the electro-tinging, the tracks here reach across a reasonably diverse spread of styles while still showing that Gung Ho! does have a signature sound throughout its diversity. It has mastered its own niche and still found variety therein. What more can I say? Check it out. (P.S. Dare you not to dance!)-- review by Kristofer Upjohn
