THE GLIMMERS - DJ KICKS (K7) |
| |

The Glimmers present a spirited and distinctive audio personality for listening consideration on their strange yet strangely accessible CD “DJ Kicks.” The uberelectronic textures erected from heady tech melodies and a groove so luscious it’s amazing it’s not organic. What really kind of stuns here is that The Glimmers can take a core of music that is strongly rooted in minimalist Teutonic techno - not the most accessible variety of electronic music around yet strangely hooky - and flesh out such an active, alive and vibrant batch of highly textured dance pieces. It’s like watching spartan dark tech music evolve instantly before your ears into very groove-laden, tribal-hinting, funkalicious, too organic for electronica and too electronic to have the vibrant, sultry groove it has (yet it does!), highly housey party dance. “DJ Kicks” is an accomplishment exactly because it is oxymoronic. What The Glimmers have done here by fusing seamlessly these disparate influences is tantamount to making the north ends of two different magnets stick together rather than repel. A must listen for tech fans. -- review by Kristofer Upjohn
