There's a reserved aspect to Skylark's personality but that's a huge chunk of the reason why this music works so well. But paradoxically, it is bright, energetic and effervescent - in a more sublime way? There are some deep cuts here, cool heat, body ache massage, under the skin, minimalist melody that achieves lushness... how do I describe this album? It is familiar yet distinct. It achieves the same hook and compulsion as more big-beat banger tracks but without all the bombast. Utterly absorbing, it blends aspects of low-key techy trance and house, making for a batch of what the press release calls "deep techno, ambient and housier cuts." Whatever label you want to affix on this music, what's important is that its subtlety is its POWER.-- review by Kristofer Upjohn
