PUSCIFER - V IS FOR VIAGRA THE REMIXES (RED)

It might seem odd for you to be reading a review of a Maynard James Keenan project here at DJFix.com. Keenan, known more for his work with the likes of Tool and A Perfect Circle, is also involved with this band - Puscifer. But still, why review it here? Look again at the title of the release. I think the presence of "The Remixes" in said title ought to be enough to explain this review's presence here. Thing is, I haven't heard the actual Puscifer album. This is my intro to the band - which means I may not have really Keenan and Company yet. So I'm not sure how far removed these remixes are from the songs on "V is for Vagina." Doesn't matter, this disc stands quite well on its own. Yes, these do feel like remixes (maybe, though, only because I know they are), but they're solid songs in their own right. Dark, not-in-a-hurry industrial grooves and various vocals and melodies I assume were sampled - or whatever - from the original tracks flow mingling with each other through a groove-oriented rock-fueled release of musical energy. The lyrics and the music work well together to establish the shadowy mood - and what else would we expect from a Keenan project?-- review by Kristofer Upjohn
