TITTSWORTH - TWELVE STEPS (PLANT MUSIC)

A GENRE-DEFINING CALL TO ARMS Literally exploding from the Baltimore area and defining the new “B’more” sound, DJ/producer/remixer Jesse Tittsworth has managed to create a masterpiece of beats and rhymes, all rolled up into one 12-track work of shear genius. With incredible depth and maturity, and peppered with witty spontaneity, “Titts” hits with surprising clarity, and “Twelve Steps” bears the sign of a dance music classic that will surely have dancefloor relevance for many years to come. An almost indescribable blend of Hip-Hop and House awaits listeners in this tour de force that features guest stars Chicago’s Kid Sister, Paserock (of Spank Rock), DJ Assault, Nina Sky, Santi White (of Santogold) and Miami rapper Pitbull. Beginning with the international charm of the instrumental “Haiku”, sensei Jesse schools the listener in edgy, chopped-and-spliced House, interspersed with plenty of Hip-Hop attitude, completed with top-notch wordplay. Moments of comedy sneak their way in via soon-to-be party classics “WTF”, “Broke Ass Nigga”, and “Drunk As Fuck”, while glitchy, space-age electro House numbers like “Bumpin’”, “911”, and the perfectly-titled “Tittsworth Theme” fill in the gaps of a wonderful 12-song tracklisting. My personal favorite, “Here He Comes”, is an angelic urban anthem that showcases the beautiful voice of Nina Sky, and relinquishes its charm to the prowess of Pitbull for a brutal 16-bar spit. Electric, funny, and fresh, “Tweleve Steps” is a perfect primer to the “B’more” sound, and easily raises the bar just as far. -- review by Carl Noone, Jr.
