DISCO ITALIA: ESSENTIAL ITALO DISCO CLASSICS 1977-1985 (STRUT)

Go away, John Travolta! It's disco time! That might not make much sense to some of you since Travolta skyrocketed to fame on the lit-up dance floor and beneath the glittering ball. But this isn't Travoltaland disco in question here; this is spaghetti disco! I don't know if that's a term but if they can have spaghetti westerns, then, dammit, they can have spaghetti disco. At any rate, this is disco, so Italian or not, your feelings on that genre are gonna factor in pretty heavily in terms of whether or not you want to boogie (as in dance) or boogie (as in leave - because you don't wanna hear it). So, wanna get your boogie on or you just wanna boogie? If you wanna shake your booty, then this is actually some pretty good disco. The word's out to the kitsch police, so get your dancing in before the shackles are on your feet. Yeah, the staples of disco hold all these tracks together. All the synthy richness and sparkling sheen, the verve and perk, the wallowing decadence, the fun-all-night reveling - this is disco. I keep telling you that. Won't you pay attention? The stuff that makes disco disco is here, making this disco. It may be from overseas, but they have derriers to shake, too, and they dug the same kinda tunage in the same era. Here's a living, thriving relic to prove it.-- review by Kristofer Upjohn
