The second release from London producer Klute (a.k.a. Tom Withers) arrives on the label Breakbeat Science in the form of dual CD containing 23 tracks. It's a Drum n' Bass journey spanning the emotional spectrum. A rich amount of breathy, child-like female vocals are featured from Moocha and Kiyomi, with smooth male vocals from Suont (who at times is reminiscent of Simply Red). The first CD is slightly more downtempo and touches on trip-hop, breakbeat, techno, and pop. Entering into CD 1 is a cinematic dark vibe with "Torrential Pain" that features the vocals of Moocha and uses the line from the historic musical "Singing In the Rain" - it's "a glorious feeling, I'm happy again. CD 2 contains more straight-ahead Drum n' Bass and starts out with a deep, dark, high energy mover "Time 4 Change". The trip through the dual CD album never meanders too far from its emotive and energetic purpose and keeps the music interesting and moving along. The mixes for the most part are well-spaced with slick sound design that doesn't make the listening experience overwhelming (as many D&B type tracks tend to be by having too much going on.) In the words of Klute, "melody is what drives me, but it's a constant battle to bring song structure into the Drum and Bass formula." How true. What Klute has done with No One's Listening Anymore is put his melodic stamp on D&B and it's most certainly worth listening to.
