QUIET VILLAGE - SILENT MOVIE (!K7 RECORDS)

If you've indulged in very many European movies (and I've seen my share) you'll know that their soundtracks can frequently ride a fine line between kitsch and art. But either way, they are frequently atmospheric, sometimes ethereal excursions. And such is "Silent Movie." Quiet Village crafts mid- and downtempo fusions of organica and electronica that make a soundtrack of their own - for a movie that exists in some other reality, in some ethereal realm - it's a movie that manifests in your mind as this CD works its spell on you. From Ennio-Morricone-esque mood to light rock personality, from subdued disco-era flavors to past-future house motifs, "Silent Movie" is a credit to its creators. Records rescued from obscurity and elevated to sublime brilliance in this found-object art, a taking of things lying around, the dust blown off them, and something amazing emerging.-- review by Kristofer Upjohn
