LOT 49 PRESENTS LEE COOMBS (LOT 49)

Lee Coombs is the kind of DJ that saved house - at least for me. House didn't need saving in many people's eyes. And Coombs didn't specifically save house for me. As I say, he's the KIND of DJ who did so. How? Simple. By making house interesting. The genre has suffered, in my view, for a long time. But I've come around a little and the genre has matured. Coombs is one piece of evidence that this is true. Not experimental or hyper-textured as, say, the Fabric series, nonetheless, Coombs knows how to build interest out of personality and atmosphere and how to create three-dimensions in audio with the proper use of mood and texture. These words seem to pop up a lot in the reviews I've written lately, but they are integral to great house and, luckily, I've heard plenty of great house lately. Coombs contribution to the "Lot 49" series is part of the string of great house that's hit my ears recently.-- review by Kristofer Upjohn
