MOBY "LAST NIGHT: REMIXED" (MUTE)

"Last Night: Remixed" is a garden of housey delights from beginning to end. Moby unleashes a pack of remixers up on his music to let them do their worst - or, I should say best. For someone that got their start doing remixes, this is a perfect full circle to complete. Now, he's one of electronica's big names and letting his work get cut-and-pasted by others. The list of remixers includes Holy Ghost!, the Freemasons of the Coach, Kris Menace, Tocadisco, General Midi, The Shapeshifters, Peter Spencer, Josh Hill, Michele Chiavarini, Seamus Haji, James Reynolds, Christophe Hoeffel, Aaron Clevenger, Drop The Lime, D. Ramirez, Dean J. Marriott, Mason, Dan Grech-Marguerat and Linus Eklow (Style of Eye). The mixed-together set of tracks careens across a spectrum of house styles. Get down with disco-house funkiness or dance hard to pounding, electro-buzz grooves. Shake your booty to traditional flavors or get deep in the zone with minimalist, crackling-textured house. It's a non-stop ride, with one track flowing into the next, one style merging seamlessly with the next. This is a lesson in how to do remix albums. -- review by Kristofer Upjohn
