TOSCA "NO HASSLE" (!K7)

Tosca's "No Hassle" is a wickedly engrossing batch of atmosphere that is chilled yet sparkles with quiet energy. From down- to mid-tempo delights, Tosca doesn't sell his wares, Tosca's wares sell themselves. Look, I'll put it this way: If you were in a music store and this was grooving along on the speakers, you might ask the clerk who it was playing so you could buy it. Unless you were one of those plebes who doesn't know the difference between muzak and chillout. Undiscerning ears, you know. But in my cattiness, I digress. Spacious melodies of the sky float through and you float through on them. Besides the obvious elements of contemporary electronica, Tosca manages to sink in some deep, cool retroliciousness, not to mention some jazz. There's even the oblique hint of bossa nova slowed down - like maybe Tosca was thinking about it, just a little. These are instant classics for the fan of chilled tunes and just great electronica period. Tosca has got personality - no chance this'll end up on a generic poor man's meditation comp.-- review by Kristofer Upjohn
