GLOBAL UNDERGROUND 27: DANNY HOWELLS – MIAMI (BOXED/GLOBAL UNDERGROUND)

In the spirit of the Global Underground series, UK clubbing sensation and rising star Danny Howells has tapped into the vibe of the southern mecca and come up with a mix set for the sun, sexy people, and parties by the beach. The mix, inspired by a Halloween night set in October 2004 at Miami clubbing institution Space, is a stunning blend of deep house, funky grooves, and techno-influenced beats that encompasses all that Miami has become known for in the global dance community. Howells starts out the deep house journey on disc one which is highlighted by Subway’s “Thermal”, Sneaker Pimps’ “Post Modern Sleaze”, and Mimosa’s “End OF Me”, which Howells refers to as, “A pure sunshine track, really beautiful.” On the second disc, he moves into a more techno-minded mix with a combination of electro bleeps and effects and ambient tracks that give the album an organic tone. Danny Howells has risen to the top of the DJ ranks by focusing on one inescapable ideal… if you play good music, you can’t go wrong. With Global Underground 27: Miami, Howells has definitely come through with an album that is sure to please anyone who has ever dreamt of clubbing their asses off in South Florida.-- review by Shawn Wallace
