10 FT. GANJA PLANT "10 DEADLY SHOTS VOL. 1" (ROIR)

10 Ft. Ganja Plant takes aim with deadly accuracy on "10 Deadly Shots Vol. 1", a groove-heavy pulse of instrumental reggae/dub. The bass flows through the center of you and down the lines of your bones with pleasurable thrum. The guitars do their dirty work, cranking out hooks that pull you farther into the will of the Ganja. The horns are a required element of the touch of jazz to this flowing music. Of course, the percussion completes the spellbinding undertaken by the rhythm making mastery of 10 Ft. Ganja Plant. What makes this a little different than you might expect is the fact that this is an instrumental album. Normally, you'd expect those distinctive vocals to speak truth into your ears. This time out, the Plant has sublimated its vitality into an instruments-only monolith of reggae grooves. It's still the same uberwarmth 10 Ft. Ganja Plant can always be counted on to provide. For some, myself included, this is actually more accessible. The thing that makes reggae work is more effective to my ears as an instrumental endeavor. Not that this is to disparage this band's - or any band's - reggae vox, but as a matter of personal taste, I dig the sound of reggae/dub more with a vox-less approach. But vocals or no vocals, this is another fine installment from one of the kings of the genre. Dig in.-- review by Kristofer Upjohn
