Laura Gibson & Ethan Rose reveal a world of sound on "Bridge Carols" that is, technically, of the experimental variety, but isn't as inaccessible as that name should suggest. In fact, there's a poppy nature to this ambient Bjorkishness. It fuses sparse but lush (somehow) electronic soundscaping with organic elements such as horns and woodwinds (in just the right, not overwhelming, amount) into a backdrop for the distinctive vocal driftings that round the whole sound out. It's utterly pretty, no doubt, and is perfectly suited to head-floating. It's chillout beauty and it's experimental for those who are gun shy of experimental. Really, that's such a broad genre that this album is a great illustration of why one shouldn't run screaming from the concept. It's not all white noise and banging. Sometimes the result is very musical in a way that is something approaching straightforward (at least for the whole "experimental" realm). Whatever description you want to attach to it, Gibson and Rose have crafted a lovely, lush field of aural flowers complete with an angelic voice beckoning you to frollic.-- review by Kristofer Upjohn
