Julien Parise's "Dirty Symphony" isn't the skank-house epic you might expect from such a title. Actually, it's quite gorgeous. Parise swings his talent into full view and finds a striking balance between robust beauty and streamlined spaciousness. In some ways, this is as beautiful as deep trance but in a totally house kind of way. But it also has the appeal of stripped down, textured house. Of course, what it is, is badass house, whatever the description. Spilling over with personality but totally under the control of Parise. Not overwrought but not underdone, either. It's probably fair to say that "Dirty Symphony" is one of the finer dance discs hitting the shelves round about now. Hooky without tapping into club obnoxiousness, sublime but not obscure, tightly produced, melodies that absorb you without being aggro (like, say, hyper epic trance), pop avoiding but not esoteric ...
