David Alvarado does with space other people do with sound. Like the cover art of his album, with broad strokes he creates soundscapes. The colors are muted but strong, vivid paintings in your mind and body as your heartbeat becomes beat, and the beat becomes your heartbeat. This is minimal house music at its finest. Say minimal and you might think boring – this is so far from it, from the kick of “Luna” to the tech-ness of “Aire” the music changes – yes Transfigures the very nature of house – right before your ears. Deeper than deep, the tracks are something you might find on an Ovum or Ghostly vinyl, being spun into silky perfection by the likes of Josh Wink or Matt Dear in a late night downtown underground set. And actually, Tranfiguration was originally released as an instant cult classic as a five track vinyl double pack EP, which sold out within weeks. Now presented on CD as a full length album, complete with five extra tracks. Alvarado’s musical musings on this, his second full length as an artist, capture the white space on his cinematic canvas with conga drums, snares and that ever pulsing beat. Definitely his finest work yet.-- review by Claire Maxwell
