The Legendary Endup: The Music
"If walls could talk, the Endup’s would relate stories
of fabulous disco excess, of epic nights that last well into the
next day and of late-night encounters that, under ordinary circumstances,
might seem tawdry but here take on an almost romantic air under
the club's sparkling mirror ball." -- Bill Picture, San Francisco
Starting back in 1973, The Endup was one of the first clubs in
San Francisco, in the now named SOMA district, which has been and
still is home to many legendary clubs. Last year, Carl Hanken, one
of the three Hanken brothers in charge of the Endup in the last
32 years passed the baton to Sydney Leung and his friends.
As the Endup approaches its 33rd year, the club has returned to
groundbreaking music, yet another wave of unending self-re-creation.
"The Endup is the fabric of San Francisco, representing the
diversity and acceptance of the ultimate American city," says
Leung. "We strive not only to continue the tradition, but we
are looking forward to bringing some cutting edge music back to
the Endup, providing a platform on which artists can truly bring
forth the new generation of music here."
The Endup has always sought to provide the altar for established
musicians and performers as well as rising stars. Today, the Endup
is reinventing its in-house lineup and bringing in superstar DJs
and incubating the future stars.
"We are constantly listening to our guests and staff to make
sure that our music is not stale, and we want to bring forth a consistently
good music experience for everyone at the Endup," says Leung,
emphasizing the importance of music. The Endup has so far brought
super star DJs like Derrick Carter, DJ Keoki, Gene Farris, DJ Sneak,
Honey Dijon and others to its lineup of DJs, while at the same time
providing exposure and building careers for its long line of residents.
On top of its legendary music, the Endup boasts a beautiful garden
with waterfalls, two full bars, a world-class sound system, an intimate
backroom, and a group of loyal customers who can tell stories of
the past thirty some years.
The Endup is open from Wednesday to Monday morning and is one
of the few clubs that open almost non-stop on the weekends. The
current lineup of events is below, along with descriptions provided
by the promotions team at the Endup.
