Sometimes we are so lucky as to get an email from someone we've
never spoken to before, not a publicist or record label, or someone
trying to get us to deposit their inheritance from their foreign
bank, but a someone talented. Ambitious. Young, beautiful, having
fun while climbing the music world ladder in sexy stilettos with
a big smile. Actually we've probably only ever gotten one such email
- and that was from the amazing DJ Anastasia. Oh, did we mention
she's from Kiev, Ukraine? Has DJed around the world and also produces
music? You know we wanted to know more about this multi-talented
musician and DJ!!!
Read on for her answers to one of our interviews by email... and
check out the news section of her website (link below) for upcoming
DJ gigs for one near you.
JW: How did you get started in music?
Anastasia: I was playing piano when I was 6 years
old, That's why I was interested in all types of music. I was writing
songs with piano and guitar and than started to use programs.
Where do you buy your records?
When I decided to become a DJ I bought about 30 vinyl records by
Internet in one day from all over the world and while I was working
abroad I was trying to get to vinyl shops asap. (In the Ukraine
we have no shops.)
Do you DJ with vinyl, CDs, and/or mp3s, or anything else?
Of course, vinyl is always the best, but if you want to play the
latest music also has to use CDs.
Where and what was your 1st gig as a DJ and how did that happen?
My first official party was "Rocking girls party" in the best club
in Kiev "Arena" - first they invited me to play on New Year Eve
before Chris Willis.
Where are some of the biggest/wildest/your favorite places
that you've DJed?
Wildest was the birthday of one billionaire in Odessa. Biggest
was in a new huge club "Night Office" in Georgia.
Do you still play piano and guitar?
Yes, I do, not so often as before but it makes me feel so good.
What do you friends and family think of your career as a DJ?
My dad hopes that I will work as a specialist (I study marketing)
when I finish University. My friend love what I do, and always visit
my parties.
How has your creativity and style changed since you started
DJing?
Changed a lot, I can even say my creativity and style has opened
up.
What are a few of your current and all-time favorite records
and artists?
Chris Willis my freedom
Antoine Clamaran ft Emily chick keep on trying
Big world fuerza
Haji and Emanuel - take me away
Chocolate puma-always & forever
And many many more…
Big or small - what kind of clubs do you prefer?
It's a very difficult question... maybe playing in huge clubs.
I give so much energy to the people and people give it me back double,
that is an incredible feeling. In small clubs I usually have a great
time, feel like we're having a little family party.
When you are not DJing, where would we find you in a club:
sitting in the DJ booth, talking at the bar, or dancing on the dance
floor?
All of them! You can find me everywhere sitting in the DJ booth,
talking at the bar, or dancing on the dance floor.
How would you describe the club scene in the Ukraine to someone
who has never been there before?
I think it's similar to any European scene, everything depends
on music. Every DJ who has played in the Ukraine comes back again
and again. You know we are a very friendly nation.
Where do you live now and why there?
I stay in the capital of Ukraine - Kiev, I live here because it's
the most beautiful green fresh country, and I am open here to so
many new interesting ideas.
Do you have a boyfriend (or girlfriend)?
I have person who ones still my heart and will never give it to
anyone else. [JW: that's exactly how she typed it!]
Tell us something about you that only your close friends know...
anything!
Just my closest friends know that I can be bisexual after few shots
of vodka.
What is your current goal as a DJ?
Playing with famous Djs and producers: Felix da housecat and Bob Sinclar.
What would you be doing right now if you never bought that
1st record and became a DJ?
To be a DJ was my wish from childhood, that's why I could do anything
- economics, marketing, promoting - but in my heart I would always
miss my studio where I write and create, producing of music is a
big part of my life.
Your fans are happy about that! Thanks for answering our questions!
