Paris when it sizzles... Paris in the rain.
Paris in the springtime... and Paris with Nick Warren! If you're
wondering why we'd be saying that about one of the pioneers of the
UK dance scene, who for a long time was nearly always mentioned
in the same breath as "part of the duo that is Way Out West",
well then my country hopping friend, ready on about one of the scene's
major players...
Hi Nick! Thank you so much for doing this interview! We here
at Raves.com/DJfix.com have been really enjoying your new Global
Underground Paris mix CD, Which is, of course, some of what we're
here to talk about! So here we go...
Why Paris?
I have been playing every couple of months in paris for a while
now, and love the scene there, for many years the paris scene was
reluctant to involve british dj's but that has all changed now,
so it was an easy choice.
What was it like your first visit to Paris and its clubs?
The first time was at a club called Redlight, a very cool dark
room that starts around 2am and was full of very cool clubbers,
I loved it! I am afraid I never get the chance to go clubbing when
I am not working, I have been to some really cool bars and restaurants
there though.
What are some things you like and don't like about Paris?
I love the vibe of the city, the people have such style, the food
is great, but its so expensive there.
Space Gypsies, Tripswitch, Audioglider... can you tell me
something Special about those or any of the other songs on the first
CD?
All those artists make amazing , melodic , intricate downtempo
music , timeless.
How did you come to acquire the records used on these CDs?
I contacted a lot of producers I admire and asked them to write
something for me , word spread very quickly and I got sent over a
thousand tracks.
What kind of software/hardware did you use to mix and record
this particular release?
It was mixed on Ableton, it is such a great programme for compilations,
I work with Alan Bremner on my comps, he is a genius.
On your myspace page your musical genre selection says: "Shoegaze
/ Regional Mexican / Western Swing" -- could you describe Shoegaze
for those of us that are unfamiliar with it? And what is your favorite
thing about Regional Mexican... and I can't help but also ask, how
long have you been Western Swing dancing?!?
Sorry but that’s all a joke! ;)
You've got over 12,000 friends... do you actually read the
messages they all must send you?
I try to read as much as I can, but its so hard to keep up with
it.
If we were to find you on the internet, what websites would
you be visiting?
I am an ebay addict, boomkat is an online recordstore and is amazing,
they sell a wide range of music, but all is really eclectic and
cool.
It's 20 years in the future and you are about to receive a
lifetime achievement award for... what would it be?
Believing in electronic music. I just love it.
What would be the song they'd be playing while they were running
the hologram film of your 40 year career?
"Nobody's Home" by ulrich schnauss.
In the more immediate future, what are you plans?
Touring to promote the Album is going to take up most of my team,
but as a&r director for hope recordings I will be looking for great
music for the label, and going back in the studio with jody for
some new way out west material.
Anything else you'd like to say?
Keep having fun and digging the music people :)
Thank you!!
my pleasure xx
