Live
electronic bands are the wave of the future from the past, rarer
than an 8 track, more powerful than a bass-driven locomotive, ready
to leap two turntables in a single bound. At least that's what comes
to mind if you are lucky enough to witness Cagedbaby, whether he's
with his band or spinning a laptop DJ set. Neither happen often
enough for us Americans, except at that lovely decadent too-short
never-ending week of 'conference' in Miami.
With that in mind, we tracked down Cagedbaby as he was recuperating
in a spa in Orlando (now there's an idea)to answer our questions
about what just hit him this past week... if you want to know more
about this amazing artist, (like his 2nd album coming out soon)
we've got links to his website and myspace at the end!
Your all-time favorite/craziest Miami confernce memory:
So many to choose from, probably my first year DJing at the Shore
Club penthouse on a beautiful evening overlooking South Beach with
Fatboy, Coxy, Carter, Wink and Fontaine. But i saw some crazy shit
this year, like a guy dressed up as Santa Claus begging with a snake,
another old man that looked like Popeye in a in-patients outfit
bumbling along trying to get a cheeseburger, oh and loads of toy
dogs driving cars... only in Miami...
How many years have you been going?
First went in 2002, to punt my first demo around, was very wet behind
the ears. Miami was pretty intimidating and I trubdled up and down
Ocean Drive bumping into lots of messy industry people.
[Editors note: yes he wrote trubdled, and that sounds exactly
like what we imagine the experience was like so we left it!]
One thing you wished you done (or not done) this time around:
Got a better hotel! Eaten more grouper!
What were you there to accomplish? Did that happen?
Well I was there to play a few parties, but its always good to see
your friends out of the UK, same international crew, and just to
let people know the new album was wrapped and coming at ya soon.
Biggest tune you heard/played/made:
No Sleep, Rekids, Josh Wink Mix - its brilliant. Heard it at all
the parties. Also my mix of D Ramirez, La Discotek. I heard a few
times at Ultrafest and at Get Physical, Beatport, Southern Fried,
F*** me I'm famous.
Did you sleep?
Actually I did. I did Miami a bit differently this time. I went
to Orlando first for my birthday (which always falls on WMC) , and
hung out at Disneyworld for a few days, so was pretty chilled and
'parked' out by the time I got to Miami. I'm back in Orlando now,
checked into a spa resort for a few days to retox and detox, perfect....
Always good to get out of miami and leave the madness behind.
Anything you have coming up release or gig wise you want to
tell us about?
Just finished 2nd Cagedbaby album, which will be coming shortly,
also have cowritten the next Tracey Thorn single, out very shortly,
beautiful little tune called raise the roof.
Gig wise, too many to mention but I'll be at all festivals this
year and getting the band out again to tour the new album from June.
Playing at GPO in Galway this weekend , but going to china to do
a tour in a couple of weeks, its my first time so should be interesting.
And finally... what was the best thing that happened to you
in Miami this year:
Playing at Cameo with Armand and Fatboy was fun nice layte set,
bonza soundsystem. But my favourite bit was getting off South Beach
and back to Disneyworld!!!!!
Thank you!!!
Thanks you !!!!
